The Independent School will provide a three-day workshop next week for teachers, students, and others interested in learning about economics, history and geography. The Kansas Legislature recently passed the second largest tax increase in the history of our state...an across-the-board, 19 percent increase in state sales taxes. They raised taxes by more than $300 million in order to fund a 2011 budget that INCREASES spending by $200 million over 2010.

Constitution and Immigration Law Professor Kris Kobach will teach a class on the history and relevance of the United States Constitution in Mound City on May 15. Professor Kobach is a Constitutional law professor at UMKC, and is a former advisor to Attorney General John Ashcroft. He is one of America’s top authorities on the Constitution. He will teach about the original meaning and understanding of the text, and how it is under assault with the passage of the health care bill, and the overall usurpation of power by an ever-expanding federal government.
