Continuing the downward slide in support for the current health care proposals in the House and Senate, a new Gallup poll indicates public support is dropping across the board. Not only are Republicans and Independents steadily withdrawing their support but even Democrats are beginning to drop off, falling by 6 points since early October high.

While President Obama and the Democrats owe their current majorities in large part to Independent voters, it is befuddling why they insist on moving forward with the current legislation when these same Independent voters have consistently opposed a government takeover of health care. Notably, the latest Gallup numbers report that Independents oppose passage of the bill by a stark 53% to 37% margin!

If the Democrats continue to push forward with this health care takeover they will make the recent Virginia and New Jersey elections more than just a portent of things to come.
